Sometimes the official ECI website is slow due to heavy traffic, or maybe you don't have internet access on your phone right now. Did you know you can track your Voter ID application completely offline?
The Election Commission has provided a toll-free 1950 SMS service. You just need to send a simple text message. Let's know how to check your EPIC status offline easily.
Step-by-Step Guide for SMS Tracking
You can do this from any basic feature phone or smartphone. Standard SMS charges may apply depending on your telecom operator. Follow the below steps carefully:
Step 1. Open Messages App: First, unlock your mobile phone and open your default SMS messaging application.
Step 2. Type the Format: You have to type a very specific format. Type the word EPIC, then leave one space, and then type your full Voter ID Number.
Example: If your Voter ID is ABC1234567, you should type exactly: EPIC ABC1234567
Step 3. Send to 1950: After typing the message correctly, send this SMS to the toll-free national voter helpline number: 1950.
Step 4. Receive Reply: Wait for a few minutes. You will receive an automatic SMS reply from the Election Commission telling you if your name is active on the list, along with your Polling Station Name!
What Else Can You Do By Phone?
If you don't want to type an SMS, you can simply make a voice call! The ECI provides a free helpline service.
- Dial 1950 from your phone (it is a toll-free number).
- Listen to the menu options and select your preferred language.
- Speak directly to a customer care executive. Tell them your Reference ID or EPIC number, and they will check your status for you instantly!
What if 1950 is Not Working?
If you are trying to SMS from outside Arunachal Pradesh and the 1950 number is not working, you can try sending the exact same SMS format to the alternate ECI helpline number: 77382-99899. This is the all-India fallback server number.
